ICYMI: Deadpool Takes over San Diego Comic-Con 2018

Another San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone, and while there were so many great panels, signings, and other events to help make it a big success, one thing was clear: If you’re a fan of Deadpool, you had a lot to choose from. Heck, you could almost call it Deadpool-Con.

Entertainment Earth Was Deadpool Central

Entertainment Earth started things off at booth #2343 on Thursday by hosting a signing of exclusive Deadpool merchandise by the creator himself, Rob Liefeld. What better way to meet the man behind the raunchiest of superheroes, and what better way to get the convention off on the right foot?

Entertainment Earth also offered collectors their first look at the new Deadpool and Cable Wooden Push Puppet. A convention exclusive, the hidden button at the bottom allows the wacky superhero to collapse and then pop up again. But we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Watch out for those katanas! This retro classic will be available in August 2018 from Entertainment Earth, and you can pre-order it now!

Other Deadpool Happenings

People who were in Hall H from 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm got to see even more of the people behind Deadpool. The panel included Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, as well as actors from the movie – Zazie Beetz, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapičić – and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The moderator was Dopinder (Karan Soni), and you can bet the jokes were dirty and the discussion raunchy.

Saturday night at the Horton Grand Theatre saw the premiere screening of the Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut. At the previous panel, Reynolds said there were so many alternate jokes and alternate scenes, “You can basically release a different movie.” The Super Duper $@%!#& Cut included 15 extra minutes of footage not part of the original film, and attendees also got to view deleted scenes, extended takes, and a lot of the alternate jokes Reynolds talked about. Those who missed out on the free exclusive Comic-Con trucker hat by not ordering The Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut at the convention will be able to purchase the Super Duper Cut in digital on August 7 and in 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 21. And by the way, the Deadpool 2 Year Anniversary Edition Blu-ray is available for purchase now. It includes stickers, car decals, temporary tattoos, and even a set of paper dolls… just like in the movie.

Other Deadpool-related events at San Diego Comic-Con included Deadpool’s Super Duper Dance Party at the San Diego Convention Center, where Thursday through Saturday fans were entertained by Deadpool and his band of animatronic X-Force rejects. The first 1,200 who attended each day received a different Comic-Con exclusive T-shirt. Fans also had the chance to win a set of 18 Fox catalog Blu-rays with limited edition “photobombed” box art featuring Deadpool. Twenty-five were given out. And to top it off, fans had the chance to enter a sweepstake in which the winner got to stay in the Deadpool Dream Suite on Saturday night. Half-finished IKEA furniture and pop-culture Easter Eggs were part of the fun, not to mention a full night of available movies from Vudu. In case you’re wondering: What happens in the Deadpool Suite stays in the Deadpool Suite.

All in all, Deadpool was a big hit at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

Will he be back at the next convention? We have a year to find out.
