Geek Headlines: Marvel Trailers, Star Wars News, Space Jam Stories, and More!

It was another good year for HBO. With Game of Thrones, Westworld, and other original series taking home multiple Emmys this past weekend, the big wigs once again proved that it’s not just cable. In addition to GoT scoring big (again), Amazon’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home a stunning eight awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

This week has been brimming with geek headlines, so let’s cut the pleasantries and dig right in.

Disney’s Pumping the Brakes on Star Wars

As arguably the single most powerful person in the entertainment business, Disney CEO Bob Iger has some choice plans for the Star Wars universe – including slowing it down. As many fans were worried that Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm would result in quick cash-grabs and dozens of unneeded spinoffs, it looks like the team over at Disney is pumping the brakes a bit to focus on more pressing matters. This could be good news from not only a storytelling but a merchandising perspective too.  You can read the full article here.

LeBron James in Space?

That’s right! The outspoken athlete has been confirmed to star in the upcoming Space Jam sequel. The original ‘90s hit starred Michael Jordan and introduced a whole new generation, for better or worse, to the Steve Miller Band. James has got some pretty big shoes to fill, but something tells us he’s more than up for the task. It looks like Bugs and gang are coming back, too.

The New Captain Marvel Trailer Is Simply Marvelous

The first trailer for the highly anticipated new superhero film delivered in spades. With clear references to Blockbuster Video, pagers, and old-school Chevy Malibus, the 90s nostalgia is strong. As Marvel’s first female-led superhero film, Captain Marvel has the ability to be one of the biggest action films in decades. March 2019 is still a ways away, but you can make the wait a little easier by checking out our reaction to the trailer.

One Shall Stand, One Shall Watch Transformers

What are YOU doing September 27? If you’re answer’s anything except watching the original 1986 Transformers movie, then you better cancel those plans and grab a ticket stat! For one night only, Fathom Events is teaming up with Hasbro Studios to bring The Transformers: The Movie back to the big screen. Viewers can enjoy a stunning new remastered version of the original animated film, and Hasbro’s even promised a sneak peek of the upcoming Bumblebee movie. Check out the original trailer above and get pumped.
